“Almost twenty-five years ago I made the decision to leave the big city of Houston and move to West Texas. I’ve raised my family here. I attend church here. I’ve served my fellow West Texans as a public servant and now I serve those West Texans I’m fortunate enough to call clients as their most loyal advocate in the criminal justice system. When to Hire a Criminal Defense Attorney
You should hire a criminal defense attorney as soon as you know that you are under investigation or think you may be charged with a crime. During the criminal investigation, the police are building their case, and an attorney can offer you advice and protect your legal rights throughout this phase of the proceedings.
Attorneys at Keith and Lorfing can also influence determinations made by the prosecution during the pre-filing stage (where they decide whether to charge you and how severe the charges will be).
DO NOT WAIT UNTIL YOU ARE CHARGED TO HIRE AN ATTORNEY IF AT ALL POSSIBLE.
However, if you do not (or cannot) retain an attorney before you are formally charged, you should hire an attorney immediately after you are arrested. We are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to answer your questions and get to work fighting for your freedom.
